This retreat is for conflict professionals who recognize the price we pay for devoting ourselves to helping others, without a corresponding commitment to being kind to ourselves – during mediation, as well as before and after.

Mediation places us over and over in the middle of high-stress situations, sometimes the equivalent of a combat zone. Our professional development is generally for the purpose of becoming more skillful at managing conflict. To the extent our learning experiences are self-reflective, they are almost always in service of allowing us to be more patient, impartial and present in order to better serve the parties.

This retreat is designed to help us bridge the gap between helping others and being kind to ourselves by:

  • Examining the underlying causes of this gap
  • Recognizing our patterns of self-neglect
  • Experiencing an array of restorative practices
  • Creating individual self-care plans

Most importantly, this day will be an experience of self-care, when we immerse ourselves in the beauty of music, poetry, art, movement, mindfulness and, best of all, open-heartedness.
